Eight 12 month‐olds acting on objects were observed in two sessions: 1) the objects were home objects; 2) they were brought by the observer as new exemplars of previous toys. Infants were observed manipulating objects independently and with their mothers. Type and cognitive level of infant's actions were coded. Conventional actions were more frequent in joint than independent activity. In independent activity, conventional actions were more frequent with customary objects. Este artículo se basa en la idea de cómo la comunicación musical activa no solo elementos musicales sino culturales y sociales. Como práctica social, la música muestra tanto su poder comunicativo como los límites de la comunicación (entendida como un intercambio de mensajes y significados). En este sentido, el ruido se presenta como un factor de disrupción en el circuito semiótico y en las relaciones sociales. La cuestión del ruido se trata como un aspecto liminar del sonido y la música, como puede observarse en diversos ejemplos tomados de la vanguardia (ruidismo) hasta la música popular contemporánea (noise), pasando por géneros musicales particulares como el punk-rock o la música tecno.
Afterword: Brokerage as social practice

This afterword argues for a narrow and analytically strong concept of brokerage, which is oriented towards the classical definition by Boissevain. His ideal type emphasises the agency of brokers who actively pursue their own interests and act at an equal distance to the groups between which they mediate. Furthermore, the text argues for thinking of brokerage as a bundle of social practices instead of as brokers in the sense of a social type. While few social actors are fully-fledged brokers, many of them engage in brokerage.

Mentoring is a practice widely utilised to support new teachers. However, in locally formed systems, the practice of mentoring is conditioned by traditions and arrangements specific to the site. To understand ‘good’ mentoring, these local arrangements cannot be ignored. In this article, the theory of practice architectures is employed to make explicit the prefiguring arrangements of mentoring practices in Finland and NSW Australia.
